Assessment Using Testmoz

One of my favorite free assessment tools online is called testmoz. It is very user friendly and you can create your own quiz in minutes. You can create a passcode for students to enter the quiz (this way you don't have random people trying to go on it and take your quizzes). You can also shuffle the questions to help eliminate cheating.

There are different types of questions that you can add to your assessments. For example, you can have True/False questions, Multiple Choice, Multiple Response (great for PARCC practice!) and short answer. The Multiple Response is my favorite, because those types of questions are the "Select ALL that apply" with more than one answer. Students will need to select all the correct answers to get credit, just as they would on the PARCC.

You can also change the points that each question is worth. For the most part, I like to make the short answer questions worth 0 points if I am looking for a sentence. No matter what when they submit their test, if their short answer doesn't match exactly with the one you created, then it will mark it as incorrect. However, even if it marks it incorrect, if you make it worth 0 points, it will not count against the students. You can then individually grade their short answers. You can also set it up so that the answer choices for each question automatically jumble up.

If you give the students the link (post it on your classroom page or your teacher site), have them sign in and then take the quiz, it'll automatically grade their quizzes right on the spot. This is a feature that I love because students don't have to wait for me to post their grades in the gradebook because they see them instantly.

Finally, once you login to the admin page, you can see how students answered every question. You can see what percentage of students got which questions wrong and from there see what you need to go over at the end of class. If only 42% of students got question 3 right, then question 3 would probably be a question that will go on the board before the class is dismissed.

If you want something a lot simpler that google forms & flubaroo, I would HIGHLY recommend testmoz.
